Back to School Sharpie Highlighter Teacher Gift

Coming from a big family, we were usually allowed one “fun” folder (hello, Lisa Frank!) and then the rest of the folders were generic 10 cent ones from Staples . Now that I live less than 5 minutes from that dream land, I get most of my business & office supplies from there. Believe it or not, all the hand lettering I do for my shop is done with markers I get at Staples.

My role is to be their learning coach, in which I support them through their lessons and ensure they do physical activity. That’s why we were so excited to meet the kid’s teachers in person at the school’s recent open house. To express our appreciation, I made some quick Sharpie® teacher gifts for the kids to give their teachers . Today, I’m sharing a quick tutorial on making your own. How fun is this DIY pencil gift box from Hello Wonderful?

Keep it simple with a set of colorful pens or markers and a free printable from The Resourceful Mama. See the Teacher Survival Kit back to school teacher gift. I’m sure you know which ones I mean…the vases made from pencils, the monograms made from crayons, the cute bell jars with apple-themed lids or etching. But, as it turns out, most teachers just don’t want more “stuff” that they need to find a place for. Back in my school shopping days, we were always bargain hunting for the best supply deals.

So many fun colors to choose from and they even have new neon colors. Though I am very involved in my children’s education, I’m not the teacher.

Or, kick it up a notch by adding a gift card to a store where the teachers can buy any supplies they might still need. These decorated brown bags from The House That Lars Built are actually supposed to be lunch sacks. But, instead of using small brown bags, just swap them out for bigger, grocery-sized, brown bags. Once your bags are painted, fill them with teacher supplies, yummy treats, a survival kit, or anything else you think your teachers will love! These gift bags are perfect for the crafty mom looking for teacher gift ideas. Treat your team members, colleagues and staff to this sweet card, accompanied by your gift.

I was going to make some pun about them being a cut above the rest, but it’s getting late and my creativity is lacking. One major problem I’ve run into while contributing to Banshee is TagLib#; it is missing some significant support for features like sort names or Vorbis cover art. GStreamer seems a logical choice, since it’s already used for playback. I laid the markers around with the bottoms touching and the tops spread out. Remember those key notes by brightly highlighting only what’s most important with the Sharpie Clear View Highlighters.

This DIY Teacher Appreciation Gift basket is packed with supplies that any teacher would love. Make this gift basket full of supplies for the first day of school, end of the school year, Teacher Appreciation Day, or just to say “Thank-you”. To tie our card onto the front, I added a pair of scrapbooking eyelets to thread a ribbon through the card. If you haven’t set eyelets before, it’s a new obsession of mine in both paper and metal projects.

You just pop the eyelet in, turn it over, and use the eyelet setting tool to attach it. Just line up the tool on the backside of the eyelet, and tap it a few times with a hammer. Be sure to do this on a protected surface, like a cutting board or a rubber mat.
